The Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency Act, 2017 [No. 8 of 2017]

Being an Act to establish the Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency in place of the Department of Meteorology and to provide for other related matters.

Title and Purpose:
The act is titled “The Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency Act, 2017” and its purpose is to establish the Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency in place of the Department of Meteorology.
Date of Commencement:
It commenced on September 28th, 2017, as per Gazette No. 64.
Establishment of Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency:
The act establishes the Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency as a body corporate with perpetual succession and capable of acquiring, holding, and disposing of property.
Board of Agency:
The governing body of the Agency is a Board consisting of a Chairman and various members appointed by the President, with expertise in meteorology, climatology, and climate change.
Meeting Procedures:
The Board is required to meet at least three times a year, with the Chairman presiding. Special meetings can be convened upon the request of at least three members.
Decision Making:
Decisions of the Board are made through meetings or written agreements circulated among members and agreed to by a two-thirds majority. The Chairman or presiding member has a casting vote in case of a tie.
Conflict of Interest:
Members of the Board must disclose any interest in matters under consideration, and failure to do so constitutes misconduct and may result in removal from the Board.
